80th Anniversary of SZD

On January 25, 1946, the Polish Gliding Institute was established. On October 5, 1948, the Institute was renamed the SZD – Glider Experimental Works (Szybowcowy Zaklad Doiwiadczalny).

As heirs to the traditions of the Institute and the Glider Plant, we wish all former and current employees, as well as the pilots and mechanics dedicated to SZD gliders, all the best on the occasion of their 80th birthday.

This is not the only important date in this anniversary year, and we plan to commemorate the occasion as it deserves. Stay tuned—and start planning your May 1-3 weekend in the Bielsko-Biała area.

The celebration of this important occasion will be part of Bielsko-Biała's 2026 Polish Capital of Culture year. We are pleased that in such circumstances, we will be celebrating Polish gliding traditions at Aleksandrowice Airport.
