Aerobatic Figures with the SZD-54-2 PERKOZ

The PERKOZ is a high-performance glider for aerobatics and cross-country flights. From the entire spectrum of possible aerobatic figures with the aerobatic category (A) of the PERKOZ (17.5 meter span and flat wing ends), some figures are described below by way of example.

Each figure is ideally represented as a single figure. The information about limits of entry speeds and load multiples contained in the flight manual and cockpit is mandatory for the PERKOZ. These data shall be adapted to the specific conditions of loading of the aeroplane and the prevailing weather condition by the pilot in real flight operations.

Aerobatic Gliding is High Performance Sports

Gliding aerobatics demands the highest performance from the pilot and the sailplane alike. The pilot should always be well trained to withstand high G-loads. For safe flying, concentration ability, discipline and experience should be maintained through continuous training. Any new aerobatic flight manoeuvre should only be flown after careful guidance by a qualified aerobatic instructor. Other safety-related topics will be taught in aerobatic pilot training.

Flight Envelope Limits of the Sailplane

One aspect of safety in aerobatics should be mentioned here: Each pilot shall be aware of the flight physics and flight envelope limits of his sailplane. These individual speed and load multiple limits are shown in the Vn-diagram for each glider type. When using side rudders, ailerons and flaps, additional loads act on the aircraft structure, which are not displayed in the G-meter. Therefore, the theoretical flight range for individual figures can practically decrease. A deeper understanding of the Vn-diagram and its connection with flight practice is therefore a prerequisite for safe gliding aerobatics and should always be aware of every pilot.
